Mission

The Chinese International Figure Painting Competition is one of a series of world cultural and art events sponsored by New Tang Dynasty Television (NTDTV). The Competition features works of figure oil painting expressing meritorious traditional virtues and values with classical western realistic methods. Its purpose is to promote cultural exchange and the art of figure painting that portrays pure truth, pure compassion, and pure beauty.

Organizer

The Chinese International Figure Painting Competition is hosted by New Tang Dynasty Television (NTDTV).

Panel of Judges

The Panel of Judges for the Chinese International Figure Painting Competition is composed of senior professionals of fine arts. The Panel of Judges is responsible for the judgment of contestants’ works and its decisions in each round of the contest will be final.

Eligibilities

  1. 1. All teachers, students, and professionals of fine arts from fine arts schools, academies, and companies around the world, as well as professional level amateur fine artists are eligible to participate in the Competition.
  2. 2. Contestants must be either Chinese or Chinese descendents.
  3. 3. Members of the Panel of Judges are not allowed to participate.

Works Requirements

  1. 1. Contestants may submit their works of figure oil painting, using classical traditional or realistic academic methods.
  2. 2. The title and content of the painting should depict traditional moral principles, without traces or signs of the culture of the Chinese Communist Party.
  3. 3. Oil paintings of nudity are not eligible.
  4. 4. Each contestant is allowed to submit as many as three (3) original oil figure paintings produced within the past five (5) years. The whole figure must be represented in at least one of these paintings.
  5. 5. Contestants should try their best to submit paintings that fit international standard frame sizes (See Appendix) as recommended by the Competition Organization Committee
  6. The Competition Organization Committee can provide finalists with frames (rental fees apply) for use in public exhibitions. The Competition Organization Committee can custom frame paintings in non-standard sizes at the finalists’ expense.

Registration and Procedures

  1. 1. Submission of works
    • A) Applicants should send high definition photos of their works to the Competition Organization Committee before the submission deadline on October 10th, 2009. The dimension of the photo should be 8.5 x 11 inch or 21 x 28 cm. The photo should be endorsed with the name of the author, the title of the works, the time of creation, and the size of the works. The submission package should also include photo CDs (one photo of the whole piece and three feature photos.)
    • B) Applicants should fill out and submit forms for the Chinese International Figure Painting Competition (downloadable from the Competition Website) and write down, in either Chinese or English, the titles and ideas of the submitted works (within 100 words). Two 1x1 inch color ID photos are needed, with one pasted to the form and the other placed in an envelope. The package should also include a copy of the applicant’s valid ID or passport. Those who pay registration fee in Taiwan (see more details below) should put a note on the application as “paid in Taiwan” and attach a photo copy of the receipt of the postal remittance.
    • C) If an applicant wishes to use his/her pen name to participate in the Competition, he/she must specify the pen name on the application form. In these cases, the Competition pledges to use the pen names for public purposes, e.g., for media coverage, publications, and awards etc.
    • D) Applicants should fill out and submit the resume form, listing major experiences and prizes. Please attach the resume form to the application form and include image copies of any listed prizes.
    • E) Information provided should be complete, legible, and signed by applicants.

    • 7) Registration Fees: US$50 for the first submitted piece; $10 for each additional piece submitted. We accept credit cards, cash, traveler’s check or money order. Make your check payable to New Tang Dynasty Television.

      ※ In Taiwan, Registration Fees: NT$ 1,750 for the first submitted piece; NT$ 350 for each additional piece. Please specify the payment as the registration fee for the 2009 Chinese International Figure Painting Competition.
    • H) Express Mail Fees: When applicable, applicants should indicate on the application form that they need entry visas into the U.S. and pay an additional fee of US$25 to offset the cost of receiving visa-related material through express mail.
    • I) Applicants should send their works through registered mail to the following address: 229 W. 28th Street, Suite 1200, New York, NY 10001, U.S.A. The recipient should be noted as: The Organization Committee of Chinese International Figure Painting Competition. Applicants from China may use email if they have difficulty with regular mail.
    • J) The Competition Organization Committee must receive all application materials before the deadline.
    • K) The Competition Organization Committee will safeguard all application materials once received. The Committee regrets but is not responsible for any loss of or damage to works while being submitted by mail.
    • L) Those contestants who would like to have their works returned should note their intention on the application form and provide an envelope with sufficient postage.
  2. 2. Exhibition, Award Ceremonies and Other Arrangements
    • 1) The Panel of Judges will send invitation letters to all finalists, and will make corresponding announcements on the Competition Website.
    • 2) Finalists should submit their original works to the Competition Organization Committee by October 31st, 2009.
    • 3) All finalists and their works will be reported worldwide by New Tang Dynasty Television and related journals, newspapers and websites. All works entering the Finals will be compiled into Chinese International Figure Painting Competition Finalist Works and published worldwide. All finalists will get complimentary copies and all contestants can purchase the book at a discounted price.

Awards

  • One gold winner: US$10,000, gold medal, and award certificate.
  • Two silver winner: US$3,000, silver medal, and award certificate.
  • Three bronze winners: US$1,500, bronze medal, and award certificate.
  • A number of outstanding performance awards: honor certificate.

Accommodation and Transportation

  1. 1. The Competition Organization Committee will recommend hotels in the New York City to finalists and their traveling companions.
  2. 2. Finalists and their traveling companions bear the costs for their travel, accommodation, and transportation.

Copyrights

  1. 1. Contestants are entitled to the copyrights of their submitted works and any related rights, and their signatures on the application forms serve as the legal grounds. The Competition Organization Committee is not liable for any legal responsibilities due to artists’ negligence.
  2. 2. The sponsor of the Competition has the right to reproduce the finalists’ works. Pursuant to relevant agreements, contestants are entitled to copyrights fees.

Miscellaneous

  1. 1. Upon submission of their works, contestants acknowledge the validity of the Rules and Regulations for the Competition.
  2. 2. Contestants must follow the arrangements by the Competition Organization Committee. The Committee has the right to revoke violators’ eligibilities and the prizes awarded. Contestants who plagiarize will bear all the consequences.
  3. 3. New Tang Dynasty Television (NTDTV) will have the copyright of audio and video materials related to the Competition.
  4. 4. The decisions of the Panel of Judges will be final, and no appeals will be taken.
  5. 5. The Competition Organization Committee has the ultimate authority to interpret the Rules and Regulations for the Competition and has the right to make changes to them as necessary.
  6. 6. Any changes to the Rules and Regulations for the Competition will be posted on the Competition Website.
