Mission

The Chinese International Figure Painting Competition is one of a series of world cultural and art events sponsored by New Tang Dynasty Television (NTDTV). The Competition features works of figure oil painting expressing meritorious traditional Chinese virtues and values with classical western realistic methods. Its purpose is to promote cultural exchange and the art of figure painting that portrays pure truth, pure compassion, and pure beauty.

Organizer

The Chinese International Figure Painting Competition is hosted by New Tang Dynasty Television (NTDTV).

Panel of Judges

The Panel of Judges for the Chinese International Figure Painting Competition is composed of senior professionals of fine arts and they are responsible for the judgment of contestants’ works. The decisions by the Panel for all rounds of contests will be final.

Eligibilities

1. All teachers, students, and professionals of fine arts from fine arts schools, academies, and companies around the world, as well as professional level amateur fine artists are eligible to participate in the Competition.
2. Contestants must be either Chinese or Chinese descendents.
3. Members of the Panel of Judges are not allowed to participate.

Works Requirements

1. Contestants may submit their works done with authentic school-trained realistic method that is classical and traditional. They are no restrictions on painting design but the whole figure must be represented in the painting.
2. The title and content of the painting should depict traditional ethnic values, and there should be no traces or signs of the culture of the Chinese Communist Party.
3. Each contestant is allowed to submit no more than three (3) of their oil paintings.
4. Those contestants whose works are copies of others or more than five (5) years old, and those who breach the Rules and Regulations for the Competition will be deprived of their eligibility.

Registration and Procedures

1. Submission of works

  1. Applicants should send high definition photos of their works to the Competition Organization Committee before the submission deadline on November 1, 2008. The dimension of the photo should be 8.5 x 11 inch, or 21 x 28 cm. The photo should be endorsed with the name of the author, the title of the works, the time of creation, and the size of the works. The submission package should also include photo CDs or Slides (one photo of the whole piece and three feature photos.)
  2. Applicants should fill out and submit forms for the Chinese International Figure Painting Competition (downloadable from Competition Website) and write down, in either Chinese or English, the titles and ideas of the submitted works (within 100 words). Two 1x1 inch color ID photos are needed, with one pasted to the form and the other placed in an envelope. The package should also include copies of the applicant’s valid ID or passport. Those who pay registration fee in Taiwan (see more details below) should put a note on the application as “paid in Taiwan” and attach a photo copy of the receipt of the postal remittance.
  3. Applicants are allowed to use pen name to participate into the Competition; however, an applicant who use pen name must specify on the application form, so that the pen name can be used for public purposes, e.g. for media coverage, publications, and awards etc.
  4. Applicants should fill out and submit their resume forms, listing their major experiences and prizes won, which should be attached to the application forms. The listed prizes should be evidenced by their image copies.
  5. Information provided should be complete, legible, and signed by applicants.

  7. Registration Fees: $35 for the first submitted piece; $10 for each additional one. We take cash, traveler’s check or money order. Make your check payable to New Tang Dynasty Television.

    In Taiwan, Registration Fees: NT$ 1,100 for the first submitted piece; NT$ 300 for each additional one. We take payment by the postal remittance payable to 社團法人台灣新唐人國際文化學會 (postal remittance account number = 50038619). Please notify with the payment that the fee is for the registration for the First Chinese International Figure Painting Competition.

  8. Applicants should send their works through registered mail to the following address as proved by postmarks: P.O. Box 1434, Secaucus, NJ 07096-1434, U.S.A. The recipient should be noted as: The Organization Committee of Chinese International Figure Painting Competition. Applicants from China may use email if they have difficulty with regular mail.
  9. The Competition Organization Committee must receive all application materials before the deadline, or applicants will lose their eligibilities.
  10. All application materials will be kept by the Competition Organization Committee, and the Committee can only regret and feel sorry about any loss of or damage to works submitted by mail.
  11. Those contestants who would have their works returned should note their intention on the application form and provide an envelope pasted with sufficient postage.

2. Finals:
The Panel of Judges will select finalists after examining the submitted photos or slides. The Finals of the Competition will be announced on the Competition Website by end of November 2008. Contestants should visit the website for the results.

3. Award Ceremonies and Other Arrangements

  1. The award ceremonies will be held in New York, U.S.A. Upon arrival, finalists should submit their original works framed. Re-framing in U.S.A. is available at charge. The exhibition, ceremonies and media conference will be held at the same time. For the finalists who may have difficulties to visit U.S.A., the awards can be given to their representatives.
  2. Invitation letter can be sent to finalists for visa application to U.S.A.
  3. If winners decide to auction off their works, the division of profit will be decided between the artists and the Organization Committee through consultation.
  4. All winners and their works will be reported worldwide by New Tang Dynasty Television and related journals, newspapers and websites, and will be placed in the annals of authentic arts. All works entering the Finals will be compiled into a pictorial book and published worldwide. All finalists will get such a book for free and all contestants can get the book for a discounted price.

Accommodation and Transportation

1. The Competition Organization Committee will recommend New York City hotels to finalists and their entourages.
2. Finalists and their entourages will bear the costs for their travel, accommodation, and transportation.

Awards

  • One gold winner: US$10,000, gold medal, and award certificate.
  • One silver winner: US$3,000, silver medal, and award certificate.
  • Three bronze winners: US$1,500, bronze medal, and award certificate.
  • A number of outstanding performance awards: honor certificate.

Copyrights

1. Contestants are entitled to the copyrights of their submitted works and any related rights, and their signatures on the application forms serve as the legal grounds. The Competition Organization Committee is not liable for any legal responsibilities due to artists’ negligence.

2. The sponsor of the Competition has the right to reproduce the finalists’ works. Pursuant to relevant agreements, contestants are entitled to copyrights fees.

Miscellaneous

1. Upon submission of their works, contestants acknowledge the validity of the Rules and Regulations for the Competition.
2. Contestants must follow the arrangements by the Competition Organization Committee. The Committee has the right to revoke violators’ eligibilities and the prizes awarded.
3. The decisions of the Panel of Judges will be final, and no appeals will be taken.
4. The Competition Organization Committee will have the ultimate authority to interpret the Rules and Regulations for the Competition and have the right to make any changes to them as necessary.

5. Any changes to the Rules and Regulations for the Competition will be posted on the Website of the Competition.
