Mission

The Chinese International Figure Painting Competition is one of a series of world cultural and art events sponsored by New Tang Dynasty Television (NTD Television). The Competition features works of figure oil painting expressing meritorious traditional virtues and values with classical western realistic methods. Its purpose is to promote cultural exchange and the art of figure painting that portrays pure truth, pure compassion, and pure beauty.

Organizer

The Chinese International Figure Painting Competition is hosted by New Tang Dynasty Television (NTD Television).

Panel of Judges

The Panel of Judges for the Competition is composed of senior professionals of fine arts. The Panel of Judges is responsible for the judgment of contestants’ works and its decisions in each round of the contest will be final.

Eligibilities

  1. Contestants may submit their works of figure oil painting created by traditional, classical, realistic, and academic methods.
  2. Contestants must be either Chinese or Chinese descendents.
  3. Members of the Panel of Judges are not allowed to participate.

Works Requirements

  1. Contestants may submit their works of figure oil painting created by traditional, classical, realistic, and academic methods.
  2. The title and content of the painting should reflect traditional moral values, without traces or signs of the culture from the Chinese Communist Party, nor of those from modern arts.
  3. Each contestant is allowed to submit as many as three (3) original oil figure paintings created within the past five (5) years.
  4. Contestants should try their best to submit paintings that fit international standard frame sizes (See Appendix) as recommended by the Competition Organization Committee. The Committee can provide finalists with frames (rental fees apply) for use in public exhibitions. The Competition Organization Committee can provide customized frames for paintings of non-standard sizes at the finalists’ expense (which could be more costly).

Registration and Procedures

  1. Submission of Application Forms
    • 1) Application forms will be accepted before the deadline on July 10th, 2013 (per the time on the stamp). The application package should include high-definition CD or photos of the works. The dimension of the photo should be 8.5 x 11 inch or 21 x 28 cm. The photo should be endorsed with the name of the author, the title of the works, the time of creation, and the size of the works.
    • 2) Applicants should carefully fill out and submit the application form (downloadable from the Competition Website), and write down (in either Chinese or English) the titles and ideas of the works (best within 100 words). The application package should also include a copy of the applicant’s valid ID or passport.
    • 3) If an applicant has to use pen name, he/she must make it clear that the name is “pen name” on the application form. Thereafter in the Competition, the pen name will be used for public purposes, such as in media coverage, or publication.
    • 4) Applicants should fill out and submit the resume form, listing major experiences and prizes. Please attach the resume to the application form and include image copies of any listed prizes.
    • 5) Information provided should be complete, legible, and signed.

    • 7) Registration Fees: US$50 for the first painting; $10 for each additional. Payment methods include credit cards, cash, traveler’s check or money order. Check should be payable to New Tang Dynasty Television.
      ※ • Contestants in Taiwan can pay fees in NT$ (the exchange rate is of the day when registered (Please contact New Tang Dynasty Asia Pacific Television).
    • 8) Express Mail Fees: When applicable, applicant should note on the application form that he/she needs entry visas into the U.S. and pay an additional fee of US$35 (for the Committee to mail back the visa application materials). For contestants in Taiwan, they can pay in NT$ as above.
    • 9) Applicants are suggested to send their application package through email to:

    • 10) Applicants from Mainland China may use email if they have difficulty with regular mail.
    • 11) The Competition Organization Committee must receive the complete application materials from a contestant before the deadline.
    • 12) The Competition Organization Committee will be responsible for all application materials received, but not so for any loss or damage during the mail.
    • 13) Contestant who would like to have their application materials returned should pay the pre-pay the returning fee and note it on the application. The returning fee should be equal to the mailing fee.
  2. Exhibition, Award Ceremonies and Other Arrangements
    • 1) The Panel of Judges will send notification and/or invitation letter to all finalists, and will publish the list of the finalists on the Competition website.
    • 2) Finalists should submit their original works by registered mails to the Competition Organization Committee by August 31st, 2013.
    • 3) All finalists and their works will be reported worldwide by NTDTV and its friend medias. All works entering the Finals may be complied into a book, which could be issued worldwide. All award winners will get free copies, and all contestants can purchase the copies at discounted price.
    • 4) Approaches of handling original works:
          a. The contestant would bring the original back;
          b. The Competition’s Organization Committee would return the original back to the contestant;
          c. The original would be stored at the Competition’s Organization Committee for a short period of time;
          d. The contestant would donate the original to the Competition’s Organization Committee, which would issue the collection certificate.

Awards

  • One gold medal winner: US$10,000 cash award, gold medal, and award certificate.
  • Two silver medal winners: US$3,000 cash award, silver medal, and award certificate.
  • Three bronze winners: US$1,500 cash award, bronze medal, and award certificate.
  • Several outstanding awards: award certificate.

Accommodation and Transportation

  1. The Competition Organization Committee will recommend hotels in the New York City to finalists and their traveling companions.
  2. Finalists and their traveling companions bear the costs of accommodation, and transportation on their own.

Copyrights

  1. Contestants are entitled to the copyrights of their submitted works and any related rights, and their signatures on the application forms serve as the legal grounds. The Competition Organization Committee is not liable for any legal responsibilities due to artists’ negligence.
  2. The organizer of the Competition has the right to reproduce the finalists’ works. Pursuant to relevant agreements, contestants are entitled to possible royalty from the copyrights.

Miscellaneous

  1. Upon submission of their application forms or works, contestants acknowledge the validity of the Rules and Regulations.
  2. Contestants must obey the Organizer’s arrangements; otherwise, the Organizer has the right to recall the eligibility of the contestant or award. Those who copied others’ works, or the like, will take the responsibility on their own.
  3. NTDTV will have the copyright of the audio and video materials produced for the Competition.
  4. The decisions of the Panel of Judges will be final, and no appeal will be taken.
  5. The Competition Organization Committee has the ultimate authority to interpret the Rules and Regulations and has the right to make any changes to them as necessary.
  6. Any changes to the Rules and Regulations for the Competition will be posted on the Competition Website.

2011 NTD 3rd International Chinese Figure Painting Competition Finalists

NTD Television’s Third International Chinese Figure Painting Competition has received over one hundred and forty submissions from North America, Asia, Europe and Australia since the end of last year.  As the result, fifty paintings were selected into the final round by the Panel of Judges.

All fifty works of the finalists will be exhibited at the Salmagundi Art Club of Manhattan from November 28th to December 3rd, 2011. The Opening and Award Ceremony will be held on November 28th. You are all welcome to enjoy these excellent paintings.
